Farm to Fork Wrap-Up 2019

A gorgeous night for a great cause

It was the perfect evening in the Ag Reserve for the 2nd Farm to Fork Benefit Dinner. The ingredients thoughtfully sourced from local farms came to life as an incredible meal in the hands of Harvest Plates and Pints, enjoyed along side local libations in front of the Reserve's most sweeping vista. Diners heard from local grown chef Tom Hughbanks about the importance of local sourcing and from MCA Co-President Gene Kingsbury about what the Reserve has meant to Kingsbury's Orchard. Executive Director Caroline Taylor spoke to what MCA has accomplished - be it matching new farmers with land through our Land Link program, reforesting hundreds of acres of stream buffer, securing ag education for all MoCo Elementary Schools and many other victories - great effort is needed for the job ahead.
2020 will bring comprehensive zoning re-writes in the County. MCA needs to be at the table to represent the interests of farmers, eaters and water drinkers through out the region. Events like Farm to Fork and the upcoming Ride for the Reserve Bike Tour give us the power to speak for local farms and open space. Thanks to all that made the event possible!

With our thanks to Wib Middleton!

Harvest Plates and Pints Staff donated leftover food from the event to Community Food Rescue - a project of Manna Food Center that in turn donates it to an organization serving hungry folks. Please consider CFR's ChowMatch program for your next event!

MCA is proud to announce that we have been recognized for a third time as one of the best small charities in the D.C. region by Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington. A panel of 110 expert reviewers from area foundations, corporate giving programs, and peer non-profit organizations evaluated 270 applications.

MCA is known as an effective and innovative non-profit whose efforts to preserve and promote Montgomery County’s nationally recognized 93,000 acre Ag Reserve have brought increased public and governmental support of local food production and farmland and open space preservation. Most importantly, MCA’s efforts are putting more farmers on the ground and keeping them there.
