A closer look at the property in question will show the complete mismatch between Peterson's plans for the mall and the steep slopes and creeks that run through the property. Click here to enlarge. Not only does the property slope down 120 feet (the dark part is a very steep part), but the reason it slopes is a stream running right through it. Even for a retail development called "Streamside" this is a little much.
The article quotes both a Peterson representative and Council President Rice doubting if anything could be built here with the impervious levels that will be voted on next week. We disagree. The proposed 15% impervious level on that property actually provides for quite a bit of development, including an area for some commercial space in proximity to town center and another larger area for potential residential development. Not large enough for Peterson? As they have a contingent contract to buy - they can readily seek a more appropriate location for their big, big project.
