Help Bring Montgomery County History To Life!
The Button Farm Living History Center, in Germantown, MD seeks new docent trainees for our hands-on history site, depicting 1850s plantation life in Maryland. Volunteer docents meet, greet and interact with the public at Button Farm for special events, heritage tours and interactive school group programs. A docent is a guide and a teacher, with a passion for history and a desire to learn, who is able to share knowledge with visitors. No prior teaching experience or knowledge required.
The Docent Training Program at Button Farm features a series of hands-on workshops exploring the history of the farm as well as the legacy of slavery and the Underground Railroad in Maryland. The program is open to anyone 18 years or older who completes our requisite training sessions. Special opportunities for youth docents are also available. For more details on becoming a docent contact Anthony Cohen, Program Director at [email protected].
